Unbreakable Mind & Body
What Season are You In?
Life unfolds in seasons, each with its own purpose and challenge. Whether you're building muscle, pursuing education, or chasing a career dream, understanding your current season provides clarity when doubt inevitably creeps in.
Our modern world bombards us with noise—advertisements, opinions, social media—making it crucial to protect your energetic bandwidth. Your diet isn't just food; it's everything you consume: media, conversations, information. Taking inventory of what adds value versus what drains you becomes essential for maintaining focus on what matters.
The quality of your support system—your "village"—can make or break your journey through different life seasons. Some people will champion your evolution; others may feel threatened by it. Being selective about who comprises your support network isn't selfish; it's necessary for success.
Whatever season you're navigating, remember that clarity comes through action, and some contemplation. Forget "trying"—commit to doing your best with whatever capacity you have each day. Even on days when you're only at 70%, giving full effort with what you have is all anyone can ask.
Ready to identify your current season and embrace the journey? Let's get to it!

Speaker 2:Welcome back to another episode of the Unbreakable Mind and Body Podcast. I'm excited for this episode. We're going to talk about seasons and hopefully, maybe you want to grab a pen and paper. I'm not sure, but hopefully, by the end of this episode I'll give you some nuggets that you can sit with and think about, because I think it's important to continuously examine what you're doing, to do an inventory and to take a look at what are the things that you're spending time on, that are an investment, that are pouring into you, that are adding value, that are a contribution, and also what are the things that are expenses or that are taking away, things that are draining your energy. Perhaps they're upsetting you. We are living in an interesting time because there's so much noise. There's so much noise on our phones, on our devices, when we are out and about in the world. There's advertisements, there's marketing, people are wearing clothing and t-shirts that make a stance, that take a position on a viewpoint about something, and I'm all for everyone having expression of self, and I'm also very much about protecting your peace and finding a way to sort of navigate life. So what I want to talk about in this episode is seasons of life, seasons of things that you are doing and how it's related to that inventory.
Speaker 2:Earlier this year, I decided with my trainer, who I've been working with in an online relationship for over five years, or close to five years now. I trust him implicitly and we collaborate and he keeps me focused and we've been working on a specific goal that I announced, declared and committed to to add some muscle to my frame. I mean truthfully, if you know me personally, you already know because I probably told you, but I told my trainer, I want to make my butt look fake, but I don't want it to be fake. I want it to be muscle, but I still want it to appear questionable. Is it real? And I get a kick out of myself and I think it's funny and I'm enjoying the process. That's what I want to do. That's for me. That's what I want to do. That's for me. But the season we're in is a growing season. It's about eating in a surplus of calories. It's about making sure that I'm training hard enough. I'm using weights that are very heavy, I'm hitting the proper amount of volume, I'm sleeping, drinking the water, doing all the things, all the things I tell my clients the need to be doing in their seasons. I'm doing specific to the goal that I want to accomplish. But now it's starting to get warmer out and so I've been pulling out some of my spring and summer attire, trying some things on. They don't fit the same, they don't look as good as they did last year, I don't know, and I'm having moments of hmm, maybe I should change things, maybe we should shift gears.
Speaker 2:Even myself, even somebody who has 30 years of experience in the fitness world, in the fitness life, in the gym life, will still have moments of uncertainty or questioning, have moments of uncertainty or questioning. And when I was a kid unfortunately for me, I was always on the defense and guarded when people would ask me questions, without calling out specific people, because it was more than one person, but the environment was like kids are always getting in trouble, kids are always fucking up, kids are always doing bad things, and so you were. It was kind of assumed that you were up to no good until you could prove you were not. And when people would question me, I would be guarded and defensive. So this is something that I've had to work through in therapy and over the years, many years that asking questions is not immediately an accusation. It's asking a question out of curiosity, and curiosity is open, curiosity is neutral. So when I'm questioning, am I doing the right thing? I know the answer is yes, and I know that it's a season, and I know that it's temporary, and the truth is, everything in life has seasons.
Speaker 2:So what I'd like for you to contemplate is what season are you in right now when you sit down and take an inventory of all the things that you are giving your attention to or that take your attention? Some things you're giving it to, some things immediately just show up and try to take it, and you have to manage that right. You choose what you engage with on your mobile devices. You choose what you consume. Your diet is not just your food. Your diet is everything that you are consuming Media, movies, books, conversations, people, marketing material. Some of it's unavoidable, some of it you do have a choice, and so protecting your peace is going to be really important for you as you're working towards something specific, because you need to maintain your energetic bandwidth. It's important.
Speaker 2:So, if you're a student, you're in a season of learning. You're in a season of nurturing. You're in a season of preparation for a career or a job of nurturing. You're in a season of preparation for a career or a job. Teams will have their season where they're playing a lot of games and practice has cut down, and then, when it's the off season, they have some practice, and then typically they have strength and conditioning work, where they're going to the gym and doing their specific strength and conditioning work, lifting gym and doing their specific strength and conditioning work, lifting weights and doing their metabolic conditioning.
Speaker 2:Whatever season you're in in your life, where are you at? Are you in a preparation phase? Are you in a performative phase? Are you somewhere in the middle? Maybe you don't know. You need clarity. So if you're in this limbo place and you're not sure if you're actually in a growing season or if you're in a maintenance season, okay, that's fine too, but I will encourage you to get focused. I will encourage you to sit down and ask yourself the question what am I working on, or what am I working towards, or what am I working on, or what am I working towards, or what am I working with? Those are three powerful questions that can help you filter and get the noise out. Stay focused on the goal and I won't stop talking about getting your village. I'm sure you've heard the saying it takes a village. Guess what Everyone should have. A village, a support system, a support system. One of the questions that I ask prospects when I'm meeting them to do in-person training or nutrition coaching it's like my top three questions is what kind of support do you have? Slash do you need, do you want? Sometimes we have a spouse who's fully on board, ready to do whatever is needed. Change their lifestyle too, so that they can support you. Sometimes we don't have that. Sometimes we have judgment. Sometimes we have people feeling a certain type of way because, oh, now you want to make yourself better. Maybe you won't want me anymore, or maybe I won't be good enough for you anymore, or maybe because this lifestyle is no longer suitable for you, maybe I'm not suitable for you anymore. So there's a whole complexity there. So support's important. Having your team is important. I'm helping a young man who wants to go for a basketball career and I'm helping him with his nutrition and we're talking about his training and he's working with one of the best trainers that I know. Could he have trained with me? Sure, do I know how to do what he needs? In a general sense, I do, but I also know that, from a specific perspective, really getting granular on what he needs, I'm not the right trainer, so I referred. So the trainer and I, we are coworkers and we're working together. We are his team to make sure that he has all of the tools, all of the resources, all of the support to be successful in his endeavor. Now here's the interesting thing about this I have shared with him. Just yesterday, I said listen, no matter what happens, whether you make it or not, you are not ever going to regret the work you're doing right here, right now, today, because this will carry you in life, this will keep you going. This is an investment you're pouring into yourself. You are nurturing the soil and planting the seeds. So, no matter what you're going to grow, you're going to learn and refine your craft. And whether you choose to pursue it as a career, maybe travel overseas on a team or, who knows, maybe you make it big with the MBA, it's possible, anything's possible. You never know. You're not going to regret this time, right now, with us. So I want you to grab your pen and paper and I want you to think about where you're at. What season are you in in your life? Right now the only way you're going to know is if you do. The only way you're going to get the confirmation that you're on the right path is to do.
Speaker 2:Don't say try, fuck the word try, because try that word try. There is an energy there of like it's okay if you fail and you know what? Yeah, it is okay if you fail. But when you think about the word try, it's kind of like a weak word and I want you to do, even if between your ears, you're telling yourself I'm trying my best, you're doing your best. Remember, even on the days when you wake up at 70%, if you can give me 100% effort of whatever you have, I'll take it. Effort of whatever you have, I'll take it. Might not be your 100%, but it's what you had on that day and that's all anyone can ask.
Speaker 2:So, thinking about the season you're in, the second question I want you to sit with is can you be uncomfortable? Can you be uncomfortable knowing that it's temporary and you are doing the things you need to do to make something happen? You're doing the work, maybe not getting the attention, not getting the accolades, not telling everyone, not posting on your story, not doing a constant day by day, play by play behind the scenes. I have to tell you I love when people share behind the scenes stuff on their social media. As I may have mentioned previously, I loved construction and learning how things are made.
Speaker 2:However, if you're always sharing the behind the scenes, you're in this anticipation phase. And what do we know? When things are in an anticipation phase for too long, it loses its momentum, it loses its interest. You lose steam, steam. So what are you working on and can you be uncomfortable for an extended amount of time, knowing that you're going to have that break or accomplish that goal or do the thing?
