I'm your host, Tiana, and on this episode, we are going to discuss time versus money and which one you value more. Now, maybe you prioritize them a little bit differently, depending on the type of situation, circumstance, event, place where you're at, maybe emotional place where you're at, or it could be a physical place where you're at. And it kind of just depends on the specific circumstance. Now, in the world of fitness, it is inundated with information, conflicting opinions, evidence-based research, uh findings. There are a lot of schools of thought, and it's super overwhelming. And one of the things that I am sure to declare when I'm talking to someone new, when I'm in a potential, you know, I'm in a what do we call that? Like a intro session or a discovery session, or I'm doing something that's to see if I can make a connection with a potential client and determine if we're a good fit for each other. And I always make sure to point out that this is not about getting information. What I do is not about giving information away. It's not the what, but it's the how. It's the way that I do it. And what happens often is we get people of all different experience levels that come through the door of the gym. And there are people that do know what they're doing, there are people that don't know what they're doing, and there are a lot of people kind of in the middle that maybe have some clue or some idea, but they tend to lean towards the same types of things that maybe they're cherry-picking or that they favor because it feels good, they enjoy it, or it's just what they've always done. So they stick to the basics. And what I have found over the years is oftentimes people will get themselves frustrated because they will think that they should be able to figure it out on their own. And I remember one of the first times that, not one of the first times I heard this from a client, but one of the first times that I heard it from a client and it landed differently with me. And my response was very honest. It wasn't reactive. I really thought about what I wanted to say to make sure that I made my point and drove it home. And I remember saying to this client, she was, I remember the scenario exactly. It was early 2020, before the pandemic hit, before everybody was told to stay at home to shorten the curve or whatnot. And we had done a uh group session, and she had inquired about potentially doing some one-on-one training. So that is a little bit more of an investment. And I remember she showed up with notes. She had all of these things in her phone, she shared with me and went on and on and on about well, I do this and I do that, and I used to do this and I used to do that. And, you know, the first thing I thought was, well, how's that working for you? Because if it was working the way you wanted it to, we wouldn't be here right now. So there's that, number one. But number two, just because you're smart enough to figure it out that you are capable of figuring this out, I'd like to ask how long have you been trying to figure this out versus getting the help from someone who's a little bit further along on their journey or well versed, educated, certified, and has experience facilitating the transformation that you desire? How much time has passed? And here is where the main focus of this episode comes from because how valuable is your time to you. Now, there are instances in life where you want something done quickly, you'll pay extra to have it shipped to you faster or to have the service expedited, right? You'll pay extra for that because you would just want the thing. You want to make it happen, you want your problem solved quickly. There are other times where getting to the end quickly would make you question the services that you got. If you got a massage or a training session or a facial, or you were doing some type of luxurious experience, and you paid for an amount of time and it was accelerated or rushed or sped through, you would lose some of the value. And you might question why it was done so quickly. What was the rush? I paid for an hour session, I wanted an hour session. There's a nail salon that I go to, and the woman that I see, she does tend to rush through it. And I am quick to double-check the work because I for first of all, as somebody who does go to the nail salon once a month, I actually hate getting my nails done. I hate being a slave to beauty of any sort. However, because of the work that I do, I'm very hard on my hands. I have dry skin, dry cuticles, and people tend to look at my hands a lot. I do talk with my hands. So I like for my nails to look maintained well. So when this young lady will rush through some things, I will intentionally slow it down, look at the work, make sure I like it, double check. And, you know, for me, this is a side note. As per usual, every episode, you know, I go on my tangents. That is something new for me. Because I grew up under the belief that I shouldn't be a pain in the ass and I shouldn't be difficult. And, you know, when you're getting a service done, think about how many other people the service provider has seen either before me or will see after me. So I should be an easy client. I shouldn't be so challenging. And what that did was it kind of left me in the space where often I would settle for something that I didn't really want, that I didn't really ask for or that I didn't like. This goes way back to my early childhood when I was a kid, when I was living with my dad, when I would overhear him talking about how women are such a pain in the ass and they they ruffle feathers and cause so much drama. And these are this is bad programming that I absorbed as a kid and really took to heart. And as I got older, I remember being friends with a lot of boys because it was just easier. There was no competition. And as I got older, like college and in my early 20s, I realized: well, that's really more about me. It's not really about the other people. I was programmed to make life easy for everyone else because I had certain privileges and advantages that other people didn't. But the news flash I got is that we all have gifts and blessings, and we shouldn't be punished for those things. We should be encouraged to tap into the gifts that we have and then develop them, refine them, and become better, and then share with those that we care for and those around us. That's how you make the world a better place. So if you have a gift, you can use it. And for me, I always tended to, you know, make people laugh and get people together. I'm good at organizing and making plans and then also thinking about thinking things through, like a whole experience, like a field trip or a day, thinking about how we're gonna get there. Are we gonna drive? Are we gonna take the train? Where are we gonna start our journey? Are we gonna, you know, walk? Are we gonna stop and eat? Do we need a reservation? Do we need tickets? So I'm all about all that stuff. Probably in another life, I could have been a great travel agent. One of the many missed opportunities because I have so many interests. But going back to finding time or making time, if you're willing to sacrifice potential years of your life trying to figure something out, at what point will you say, you know what? I think I need help. This problem is bothering me, it's taking me too long. I feel like I could have been further along than I am. And maybe I need to put the blinders on and stop being attracted to the shiny new objects that are dropped in front of my path along the way and stay focused on the task at hand, stay focused on what's really important. And that is where a professional will come in to play and help you stay focused. But for some people, there's a huge feeling of victory, of joy, of a sense of accomplishment because they figured out that problem that was bothering them for so long. So think about in your life where you may have some challenges or where you may be struggling with something. Where couldn't you potentially make a little investment and accelerate the process? We can learn from our homes, from our phones, and from our computers, but that will never replace getting a formal education in a specific line of work or field or opportunity. It will never replace hearing a professional, listening to stories and hearing experiences, real life experiences from real people, as opposed to reading stories about things on the internet. Not too long ago, I was venting to a colleague of mine, and I said, you know, I have a couple clients that are really into women's health, podcasts, YouTube. They love to hear, read, absorb all of this material that is out there about women and women, strength training, and how they should eat, and how they should train, and what they should do. And do they need to get on HRT, which is short for hormone replacement therapy? And as I'm sharing this with my colleague, I said, the problem I'm having with all of this is that we're being slammed with information, but I don't care how many podcasts you listen to. If you don't get out onto the floor and start lifting some damn weight, your body's gonna stay the same. If you don't advocate for yourself and find your voice and get out there, make those doctor's appointments that you are speaking about, find an expert in the thing you want to do and retain their services, then start putting in the work. If I don't see those worked hours, your opinion means very little to me because you are speaking from someone else's story, from someone else's perspective. There's no real life lived experience here. You're just regurgitating what you've heard. You're not actually telling me about you and your life. You're sharing someone else's opinions with me, or maybe someone else's data, or someone else's research. Hopefully that makes sense. So we're getting close to the end of the year, and the next couple of podcast episodes, uh, I definitely will be doing one about reflections and thinking about what went well this year, what you could do away with for next year. 2026 is right around the corner, and it's both eye-opening, scary, and exciting all at the same time. Now, I wanted to share just a little teaser here that I am working on a new project and it will be available soon, but it's going to be something really cool, really digestible for women who want to learn how to put their own workout routines together. So, yes, I just went on a tear for about 15 minutes talking about people wasting their own time figuring things out. And I have a solution, and I think it's gonna be great, especially for the women who are capable of figuring it out on their own, but this is gonna streamline the process for you. So that's coming up soon. I'm working on it behind the scenes. It is a lot of fun, it's not gonna be some huge investment, and it is not gonna be a course where you have to sit down and watch me go through presentations and slides and downloads and all sorts of stuff. It's gonna be very easy for you to consume and apply. That is where we are going in 2026. So the world is moving at a much faster rate, and that is why I am encouraging you to figure something out for yourself so you're not spinning your wheels. Another year is coming to a close, and I bet you might not be where you thought you were gonna be. If you are, and I am incorrect, that's amazing. Good for you. But I know for so many of us, we actually are nowhere near our fullest potential, and we're nowhere near where we want to be yet. Keyword yet.
